I’ ve been always fascinated about the possibility of designing new microorganisms with novel capabilities that could be interesting for the development of new vaccines, diagnostic sensors and therapeutic interventions for certain diseases. In this regard, working with a minimal genome such as the one of Mycoplasma pneumoniae provides an excellent starting point to use it as a chassis in which add different modules that would provide the desired functions to the engineered microorganism. I strongly believe that Synthetic Biology has the potential to revolutionize future medicine.
